SUMMARY

Cocktail Party Effect gives us a walkthrough on the title tracks of his debut vinyl and digital release for Pinch’s Cold Recording label. Juno Download Review: Cold Recordings are proud to now bring you Cocktail Party Effect. Eric Baldwin, the Berlin based British producer, shows off his colours here with a diverse, but always dancefloor savvy EP with four killer cuts. The title track “Battered” kicking things off with a glitching set of electronics and setting a curious mood, before dropping into a crazed rhythmical explosion. “OOYFM” takes things into more typical UK bass music territory, rolling out techno ingredients, with a grimey bassline and broken-beat dynamics that also hint at UK garage influences. On the second half of the EP you’ll find “Intens” taking a stance that sits somewhere between dancehall and techno, rolling and smashing its way as it goes along. The EP closes with the moody, bass driven and percussively expressive track “I Kno3”.

Born into a musical family, Eric began his journey into sound at an early age –as a producer/drummer he has worked with such R&B/Jazz/Rock/Electronic luminaries as Geno Washington, Matt Berry, Snow Patrol and Dominic Miller. Eric’s music takes the listener on excursions into complex rhythmical territory, but his grasp of melody and harmony is just as profound.

Using found sounds, live and electronic drums, various synths and vocoded vocals, Eric creates a beautiful, unearthly noise and pulls off the difficult trick of creating a sound which is full of musical reference points while also sounding entirely original.
