Jafu of the label Chord Marauders delivers to us an in-depth guide in Ableton Live on drum programming and how to create and sequence some different types of UK Garage rhythms and grooves, as well as offer insight into some very useful processing techniques that you could use anytime to alter the characteristics of your drums and give your snares and hats more of a UKG feel. With the sample pack provided, you’ll be able to follow along with him and experiment with these rhythms easily yourself.
In this drum programming course, Jafu will be dissecting different straight and swing time rhythms and grooves, showing you some methods to always stay within the pocket of the groove, as well as giving you some valuable tips and tricks to turn a boring and possibly static beat into something much more interesting by utilizing the most of the grid space and jumping into divisions of 32. He’ll also be diving into some methods of turning some ordinary drum samples into sounds that offer up more of a shuffle feel, giving them a better suited sound for Garage music, and will finally be offering some insight as to where you can find good sounds and layering material to start with to craft your own sounds and really put a personal touch on it.
This guide was performed in Ableton Live 9; however, the information found within could be applied to any genre of music, or DAW you may be using.

Awesome tutorial, hoping there will be more, but focused more on garage bass and maybe even a start to finish course on a garage track. I’ll be staying tuned for this! Big up Jafu!
Thanks for watching! I’ll be sure to cater to what people are specifically looking for in terms of production stuff. Happy to do a video on different options for bass in garage/future garage, and more structure related content in terms of producing tracks from start to finish. Definitely keep an eye out!
