In this 2 part series of tutorials entitled, mixing with Izotope, Raff Di Renzo aka Nurve lifts the lid on his approach to mixing his tracks.
In this set of tutorials, Nurve has opted to use a selection of Izotope products which he uses in his music. All of the plugins can be found over on the Izotope website as a part of Ozone 9 – Music Production Suite 4. Izotope have recently introduced their subscription model MPS PRO. Go and check it out!
Please note that although Izotope plugins have been used to deliver this course, the techniques and methods Nurve demonstrates can be achieved with plugins by other developers but the results may differ slightly.
Part 1 of Mixing With Izotope has the following:
- Part 1 – Nurve introduces his course along with giving his interpretation as to what mixing (the mixdown) is and what is means to him. He also goes into what the learning objectives for this course is.
- Part 2 – He starts things off by demonstrating the commonly used “EQ” – the parametric eq. He shows us how to remove unwanted frequencies from a sound.
- Part 3 – We take a look at Dynamic EQ. Nurve utilises it in mid/side mode but he also explains how this can used on any mode and on any sound.
- Part 4 – Nurve gives you 5 nuggets of advice that he lives by when mixing down his music.
- Part 5 – He summarises this course and also goes into what you can expect in part 2 of this 2 part series.
Part 2 of Mixing With IZotope has the following:
- Part 1 – Nurve recaps on part 1 of this course series and he also lays down the learning objectives for part 2.
- Part 2 – We get stuck into stereo imaging and how we can spread certain areas of the frequency spectrum into the stereo field.
- Part 3 – Nurve takes a look at saturating his drums via a return channel and sending the signal in parallel.
- Part 4 – He uses reverb to add some fair dust to his hi hats via a return channel. He also shows you how the same can be done by applying the effect direct as an insert.
- Part 5 – Nurve wraps things up by summarising the course.
