Let’s Talk About The Drum & Bass Scene

the drum & bass scene

We are probably all aware of the history that Drum & Bass boasts. Over the 30 years that it has been around it has firmly established itself as one of the biggest music scenes in the world of electronic music. The Drum & Bass scene has been very lucrative for a select few artists over the years and there seems to be a whole new wave of artists, and a lot of them, who all appear to be reaping the rewards, both successfully, and financially, of this powerhouse genre.

The gap between the bigger artists and the more aspiring/up and coming artists is a bit less than it used to be and it’s attracting and encouraging more creatives and business people into the Drum & Bass scene, therefore creating more opportunities for producers, DJs, event promoters and other positions within this well oiled, emotionally charged, music machine.

The internet has contributed greatly towards the rise in popularity of Drum & Bass in recent years and one of the most notable contributors IMO, is Instagram. Drum & Bass heads love Insta. It seems to be designed perfectly for artists to document their every move via stories and reels and the busier the artists are, which Drum & Bass artists are right now, the more of a movie it all looks like. The two aforementioned components of Instagram feel as if they were made for the Drum & Bass scene, or on the flip, embraced by the Drum & Bass scene, but not only for the artists, but for the consumers of Drum & Bass (ravers, as we prefer to call them). They do not hold back when they are partying and showing their love for artists and DJ’s. Some videos containing Drum & Bass tracks rack up millions of plays regularly and that shows just how popular this genre has become, not only in its motherland, the UK, but globally too.

So where do I see it going? I think it’s just going to keep going from strength to strength. I think the national music charts will be littered with even more of it in 2023 and I think the artists who are at the top of the tower – the elite – will carve out channels in the music industry holistically which will inevitably present very big opportunities both in and around the Drum & Bass scene, and beyond, for all of those involved. For anyone who wants to, or is able to write Drum & Bass music, DJ, or contribute in other ways at a good enough level, backed with an entrepreneurial mindset with the intention of building something whether it be a brand, record label, blog, event or anything else, will stand a fair shot of making it work in some capacity, with the additional possibility of potentially making some money from it too. With all that being said, it’s NOT easy because lets not forget, this is the music industry and we are not dressing it up… It’s brutal, and not everyone “makes it”

For me, Drum & Bass is the genre that everyone wants a piece of atm, and it’s only going to get bigger, and more popular.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this so please come and join us over on our Discord channel where we discuss this type of thing on a regular basis.

Big up and catch you on the flip!
