In this course, Boylan breaks down his 140 smasher ‘Start Up’ ft Flowdan. Released on his LP on Nomine Sound, we get a first hand look at the method behind how Boylan creates his tracks, processes his sounds and mixes everything together at the end of the creative process.
After a brief introduction and play through of the track, he shows off his percussion and how he built the drums from the ground up. Choosing samples, processing them and building a full sounding and hard hitting rhythm section.
Next, the bass. We learn how to make those rich textures and thick bass lines that Boylan is known for. Starting from the basics, he explains the processes at work when making a dirty bass sound and how to manipulate your patches further within your DAW to get an even better sound.
Lesson 4 focuses on the synth and fx elements of the track, ‘Start Up’ ft Flowdan. There is a lot to break down, but Boylan tackles the mid range, atmospheres and fx sounds throughout the whole tune. Learn how to mix all these parts together and ensure you have a balanced and full frequency spectrum.
Next up is the recording of the vocals. This is a really important part of the process and helps make sure that you are working with the best quality recording when mixing down your track.
Lesson 6 is all about the mix down. Boylan shows us how he manages to fit so many sounds and textures in to his mix down and shares his tips for working with those 140 sounds.
In the final lesson, Boylan walks us through how he processed the vocals from the Don Flowdan. Learn his tips and tricks to mixing vocals on top of your tracks and how to get everything sounding crisp and clear.
